Intern Program – Skill-Building for Ages 16+ with Special Needs
The Intern Program at Neverland Dreamers is designed for individuals ages 16 and up with special needs who want to gain practical job skills in a supportive, structured environment. Interns participate in hands-on activities that focus on building confidence, responsibility, teamwork, and workplace readiness. Each intern is supported by staff and volunteers who guide learning at an appropriate pace.
Program Goals:
The Intern Program helps participants:
- Develop real-world job skills
- Build confidence and independence
- Practice communication, teamwork, and workplace etiquette
- Learn responsibility through meaningful work experiences
- Experience structured routines similar to a professional workplace
Wages and Hours
Interns are paid $8.00 per hour for up to 15 hours a week. This ensures that each intern is compensated for their time and contributions while gaining valuable experience. The program offers flexibility in scheduling, allowing participants to balance their work and personal commitments.
Intern Activities
Interns rotate through various work areas based on their interests, abilities, and program needs. These activities may include:
- Clothing Sales & Retail: Sorting, organizing, pricing, and assisting with clothing sales
- Gift Basket Assembly: Preparing and assembling gift baskets with attention to detail
- Homemade Hand Scrubs: Assisting with preparation, packaging, and presentation
- Snack Shack & Snow Cones: Helping prepare snacks, serve customers, and manage simple transactions
- Local Honey Sales: Assisting with display and sales of honey supplied by a local vendor (no product labeling required)
- Ball Cards & Board Games: Organizing, sorting, and assisting with product sales
Intern Support & Supervision
Interns are never expected to work independently without support. Our trained staff and volunteers provide continuous guidance and encouragement throughout the program:
- Clear explanations and demonstrations of tasks
- Ongoing support to ensure learning at an appropriate pace
- Emphasis on learning and effort rather than perfection
